Microsoft Core Infrastructure Optimization
First DataCorp together with Microsoft is committed to help customers realize the value of their investments in IT infrastructure and to make the IT infrastructure a strategic asset that enables agility by delivering software, services and best practices that together will help you lower your cost and complexity, keep the business running, and improve IT and Business alignment. This is achieved by providing a model for infrastructure optimization that helps customers diagnose and subsequently improve the state of their IT infrastructure in concert with their business goals.

First DataCorp’s suite of Microsoft solutions offering is based in the Core Infrastructure Optimization (Core IO) initiative. The core infrastructure optimization solution helps customers understand and strive for a more secure, well-managed, and dynamic core IT infrastructure that will help enable them to reduce their overall IT costs, make better use of IT resources, and make IT a strategic asset for the business. The key challenge in this area is to support IT professionals in the management of servers, desktops, mobile devices, and applications and in achieving efficient resource usage to help customers eliminate unnecessary cost and complexity, ensure that their business is always up and running, and establish a responsive infrastructure.

The core infrastructure optimization solution is focused on four capability areas which are elements to build a more agile IT infrastructure. These solution areas are:

  • Identity & Access Management – Assist customers to manage people and asset identities, manage and protect their identity data(synchronization, password management, and user provisioning, to mention few), and manage access to resources from corporate mobile users, customers and/or partners outside of a firewall. The Microsoft Windows 2003 Server Active Directory Services, Windows Rights Management (RMS) and Identity Integration Server (MIIS) provide the key software infrastructure for this capability.
  • Desktop, Server, and Device Management – Help customers manage desktops, mobile devices, and servers as well as deploy patches, operating systems, and applications across the network. Microsoft System Management Server (SMS) and Operations Manager (MOM 2005) provide the key software infrastructure to support this capability.
  • Security and Networking – Provide customers assistance in implementing capability for their IT infrastructure to help guarantee that information and communication are protected from unauthorized access while at the same time provides a mechanism to protect their IT infrastructure from denial attacks and viruses while preserving access to corporate resources. Microsoft ISA Server provides the core software infrastructure for this solution area.
  • Data Protection and Recovery – Provides structured or disciplined backup, storage, and restore management solution. As information and data stores proliferate, organizations are under increasing pressure to protect that information and provide cost-effective and time-efficient recovery when required.

While rock-solid technology is necessary to meet demands for reliable, available, and highly secure IT services, technology alone is not sufficient; excellence in process and people (skills, roles, and responsibilities) is also needed. First DataCorp provides proven best practice guidance on how to cost-effectively design, develop, operate, and support solutions these solution areas while achieving high reliability, availability, and security.
